Ryan Whaley

case study

OUR TASK:
Ryan Whaley is a litigation, energy and environment law firm based in Oklahoma City with clients at the local, regional and national levels. The firm approached Koch Comm to develop a new brand identity and collateral to help the firm look on the outside the way they felt and functioned on the inside. The firm wanted to look more approachable and modern. The change coincided with the decision to move their practice into Oklahoma City’s historic Deep Deuce neighborhood and establish the firm’s official name as Ryan Whaley – simplifying its historic name, Ryan Whaley Coldiron Jantzen Peters and Webber. These movements opened the door to reimagine with the client a new look and feel for their brand.

HOW WE HELPED:
Branding

THE BRAND

Tasked with developing a visual representation of Ryan Whaley’s core values, Koch Comm began by identifying brand pillars that represented the firm: innovation, expertise, approachability and connectivity. These pillars then informed the creation of the visual identity. The final concept embodies four distinct symbols in addition to being a monogram of the firm’s initials: DNA, Leaf, Flame and Joined Hands.

THE COLORS

To coincide with the simplicity and approachability of the new brand, Koch Comm employed a color scheme that evokes the firm’s relaxed, down-to-earth culture. The colors – most notably copper – are not usually typical of a law firm, allowing the Ryan Whaley brand to stand out from the crowd.

THE PROCESS

Following discovery sessions, Koch Comm developed a strategy to identify the mood and tone of the brand in alignment with the brand pillars, determine brand inspirations and explore how the new brand would be implemented. Once the team decided on a direction, they began bringing the brand to life with three unique concepts.

BRAND ASSETS + BRAND BOOK

Once a concept was chosen by the Ryan Whaley team, Koch Comm developed a comprehensive brand guide, complete with implementation recommendations including outdoor signage, business card designs and office environmental branding opportunities.

COLLABORATORS AND GUIDES

The collaborative efforts between the client and internal teams fostered clear communication and innovation. This partnership provided guidance for Ryan Whaley that helped move the firm forward as they began their next chapter.
